For the third time in succession the Automotive Ethernet Congress was staged on February 7-8, 2017. Following on from the previous two successful and highly informative events the attendees naturally expected much and more. And they were not disappointed. The third congress was even bigger this time round: More than 800 participants, speakers and exhibitors from 25 countries wanted to see and speak of the progress of Ethernet in the automobile. In the words of Dr Kirsten Matheus of BMW: "10 Gbit/s Ethernet is what we want to achieve, and the challenge we must set ourselves."
In 19 papers from leading automobile producers like PSA, BMW, Daimler, Hyundai and Jaguar Land Rover, and suppliers like Continental, Bosch, Valeo and Magna, the speakers presented insight and outlook on all major aspects of the automotive Ethernet such as higher data transmission rates, EMC demands or security. These aspects were explored in depth in the course of five concentrated workshops. The congress was rounded off by lively discussion in the accompanying exhibition by 38 companies. Showcased were semiconductors through connectors and cable systems to test solutions and concrete demonstrations like Gigabit Ethernet TSN or 1000BaseT media converter.
